Some How, Some Way, The DOW Has Clawed Back To 16,805.....
The Dow has been getting pounded for much of the volatile month of October. Down 200, down a 100. Not pretty to say the least. Things looked pretty grim at 16,300, at what seemed like just a few days ago.
But right before your very eyes, you wake up Saturday morning and the Dow has snuck back to 16,800... Again, teetering on the promised land of 17,000. But hey, it's only monopoly money, right? Ok, one more week to go ! Let's see.

Can the Dow Go To Unchartered Territory ? 16,000.............
Well, even through the Government shutdown, a near default, SAC Partners' and JP Morgan's legal troubles, LIBOR manipulation and more, the DOW has not tanked. Even, European financial problems can't keep it down. Twitter going public..Hey life goes on.
So having said all this, the DOW is currently hovering around 15,600. About 8500 points up since Obama took office. So I ask one big question...Will the Big Board hit 16,000? Prediction, yes! On Christmas Eve.
Steve "Adam Smith" Goldman reporting.

Don't Look Now; Dow Jones Has Crept Back to 15,460?
So what does it all really mean? Dow cracks the 15,000 mark, then gets pounded a bit and sinks into the 14,000's. Then lo and behold, it creeps back to the mid 15,000 range. These fluctuations are the daily results of the market responding to any bit of national or global news that would affect investor confidence.
In my opinion , the swings are fun to watch....but what do they really mean in the long run?
16,000, here we come!

Dow Jones at 14,842....Next Stop 15,000 ?
What can you say as the Dow continues to climb Mount Everest at a "record pace" ? Nothing the "index " does now surprises me. 11,000 was a big deal. Then 12,000! Then 13,000..Then the "Impossible Dream "...Yes, 14,000! So two years ago, if you asked me if 15,000 was reachable. I would have called you a dreamer.
But as Emmitt Smith said in his Hall of Fame induction speech ; "A dream is a dream, until it's written down on paper. Then it's a goal"! In that case , write it down. 15,000 is next!

Will the Dow Hit 14,000, That Is The Question ?
At 11:08 this morning the Dow hit 13,586. Amazing, considering it had bottomed out in the low 7,000's in the fall of 2008. If somehow, someway it reaches 14,000, the Dow would effectively have grown by almost 7000 points in the last 4 years. How do you explain it, taking into account all the other negative economic data?
You don't! Happy trading.

Dow Jones; Don't Look Now, Dow just Hit 13,302 !
Wall Street is a world unto itself . Unemployment, Libor scandals, Euro craziness and mortgage debacles....But somehow, the Dow has gotten up off the canvas and has reached 13,302 as of 10 minutes ago. Wow!
How do you explain it ? Short answer , you don't . You can rationalize it after the fact, but there is no way to look inside each " investor's head " to know their mindset. The slightest tick can set off a worldwide selling spree . So for the time being , while the market is no longer the investment tool it used to be , the Dow Jones Index is as mighty as ever.
Now , what is going to happen with Facebook?
Enjoy the weekend!

Dow Closes at 13,200, But Can't Seem To Climb any Higher!
The Dow Jones closed yesterday above 13,200. Certainly nothing to sneeze at. In fact , since breaking 13,000 it has creeped above 13,200 a number of times . But due to a variety of factors it cannot get to the next plateau (or even 13,300 for that matter ). More and continuing bad news coming out of Europe has put a damper on things. Be patient.
My prediction: Next week we string a few strong days together, get over the 13,300 hump and "13,500 " here we come !
Be positive!
Wall Street Economist Steve "Market-Watch" Goldman reporting from Broad and Wall.

Dow Hits 13,200, NASDAQ at 3000, Not Bad!!
Is it more jobs? Manufacturing on the rise? More credit? More consumer spending ? Some possible European stability ? Increased investor confidence, or a combination thereof? Whatever the rationale or explanation the DOW and NASDAQ are at or near their all-time highs.
Go figure! Will it continue ? Your thoughts .

Dow Jones Industrial Has Now Tasted 13,000, But Can it Stay There?
Several times since last Tuesday, the Dow has risen above 13,000 during the trading day but then dipped back below that magic number. Like right now at 10:47 EST the DOW has climbed to 13,000 on early gains. But can it stabilize and close "a trading day " over 13,000?
It reminds me of the NFL running back who finally reaches 1000 yards in an NFL season, but lo and behold on the next play he's dropped for a three yard loss and is back to 998 rushing yards. He then has to scratch and claw to get over a thousand yards and stay there.
This is now the challenge for the Dow . Ride the positives like you're on board Secretariat , get over 13,000 and stay there !
Who knows, then 13,250 may be in our sights .

Is Today the Day? Will Dow Finally Get Back Over 13,000?
As I post this blog, the Dow has climbed to 12,919. Yippee! I wonder if "Lin-Sanity " has contributed to the rise. Probably hasn't hurt it.
In any event , as I predicted this would be a rebound of historic magnitude . Who woulda thunk?
Republicans, what are saying now? Your thoughts .

Don't Look Now, The Dow Just Hit 12,900....
I know it's only one(albeit a huge one) economic indicator, but when I checked the market at 1:44 p.m. today the Dow had climbed to 12,913 . Quite remarkable if you think about it. When the Dow in the wake of the credit crisis dipped to 7300, panic was everywhere. In my opinion , if it had fallen into the 6000's we might have had a replay of 1929!
So with the market climb and the drop in unemployment, there is at least some optimism in the air . The White House must be smiling too. Now let's get us some more jobs...And who knows.

Hip ,Hip Hooray , Dow Finally Hits 12,500!
I predicted at the latter part of 2011 that the Dow would fight, struggle and finally reach 12,500 and that 13,000 would be next. Wouldn't Obama love that ? So after (for what seemed like an eternity) teetering in the 12,000-12,300 range , the Dow finally closed over 12,500 yesterday..Remember the day ! 13,000 here we come.

Dow Jones Desperate to Get Over 12,500.....13,000 could be next!
At the time I'm preparing my blog the Dow Index is at 12,412 . For a while it's been in the 12,300-12,400 range...Trying mightily to clear the "artificial, magical " 12,500 plateau. Just not enough investor confidence or good news to get over the hump.
With some good news (jobs,) 12,500 could be just around the corner....Then lo and behold 13,000 is within sight!
Who woulda thunk?

Dow Jones, Around and Around We Go........
Five minutes ago the Dow was up to 11,354 . Second straight day of gains. So really, what does it all mean? Temporary solace? A good feeling ? Paper profits ? I don't know, satisfaction that " the market " isn't tanking? All of these things, none of these things . What do you think?
I do know one thing...If my memory serves me correctly, we're just about where we were 3-4 weeks ago on that "bleak Monday " after S&P downgraded . Go figure .
Anyway, another day , another dollar.
One last thought, let's not put too much emphasis on the stability of Greece's economy going forward. We got our own fish to fry.
This has been your market analyst Steve Goldman. Have a good day!
